  • Experience the Atlanta Zoo and Aquarium!

    Posted 2012-01-04 by Admin

The Atlanta Zoo and Aquarium is a great option for families to spend some quality time together. They are two separate attractions, and both offer a variety of excitement and activities for people of all ages.

The Atlanta Zoo began in 1889 when a circus that was passing through town stalled there due to cash flow problems. The circus never left, and the zoo was started. The Atlanta Zoo offers day camps for school-aged children when school is not in session. These camps offer hands-on learning, nature discovery, arts and crafts, and the chance to get up close and personal with different animals in the park. The zoo also offers night time visits, which are a great opportunity for families to experience the animals in the evening when they may be more active.

The Atlanta Aquarium has over 10 million gallons of water and more sea life than any other aquarium in the United States. It offers many events for their visitors. Families can do a behind the scenes tour and have a variety of choices including a shark experience. The aquarium also has a toddler program. This gives parents and their small children a chance to interact with a variety of animals and other hands-on activities. Another exciting experience is a sleepover. The sleepovers can be arranged for families or groups and offer an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at sea life after dark.

Both the Atlanta Zoo and Aquarium are located very close to downtown Atlanta. The zoo is located just off I-75 or I-20 and is just a few minutes from Atlanta. The Aquarium is located in the heart of downtown Atlanta, just across from Centennial Olympic Park.

Whether families are visiting the beautiful city of Atlanta, or are permanent residents, a visit to the Atlanta Zoo and Aquarium is a must.
